From the Government document published online today >Click here<
Rffj welcome the review of family law as pledged by the new coalition government
The document states:
We will encourage shared parenting from the earliest stages of pregnancy – including the promotion of a system of flexible parental leave.
We will put funding for relationship support on a stable, long-term footing, and make sure that couples are given greater encouragement to use existing relationship support.
We will conduct a comprehensive review of family law in order to increase the use of mediation when couples do break up, and to look at how best to provide greater access rights to non-resident parents and grandparents.
Rffj spokesman Mike Kelly said:
"This document is definitely a step in the right direct, after 5 years of Rffj protest and 3 years of talking to opposition MPs, it's pleasing to see they have listened to the talks and have looked at the reasons behind the protests"
"The campaign is far from over yet, we must continue to push for a legal presumption of Shared Parenting"
"There is a long way to go before parents have a level playing field when they divorce or separate, the government must remove the 'winner takes all' system where false allegations are taken as fact and where contact orders are ignored with impunity"
"The system is beset by delay, incompetence and mismanagement, costs can spiral and support is non existent"
"Family law judges and professionals should be held to account for their mistakes, proceedings must be open and judgements transparent"
"Until the scales of justice are truly working equitably and openly, then expect to see more action from us"

02 October 2007: Criminal Courts parody the injustice of Family Courts

PRESS RELEASE 2nd October 2007
Delay, bias, incompetence and institutionalised nepotism, things we now regularly expect to hear of British Family Courts, but not this time.
The two week long trial of fathers rights activists Jolly Stanesby and Jason Hatch for the alleged unlawful imprisonment of the former Children's Minister Margaret Hodge MP has all the traits of a family law case.
After being sat on by the Police for over two and a half years, the CPS had no alternative but to charge the media savvy protesters for the more serious charge which holds a custodial sentence.
The light hearted and publicity awareness stunt which involved former Fathers 4 Justice activists seems destined to have two more fathers imprisoned for highlighting a human rights tragedy that will only serve to fuel further activism from campaigning fathers groups.
Summing up the case today will likely see two dedicated fathers sentenced to prison for highlighting the horrendous failings of this Government and its appointed ministers to protect British children from losing one parent (mostly fathers) needlessly during their parents separation or divorce.
Family Law Reform Activists from Real Fathers For Justice have vowed to take a stand against any sentencing of campaign activists today and will escalate efforts to target any MP or Government representative they deem a legitimate blocker to positive change for British families needing a family legal structure fit for the 21st century.
The peaceful direct action campaign of Real Fathers For Justice is aimed to ensure that the public is aware of what this Government have failed to address, and why aspects of society and family are in breakdown.
Family Law needs to establish both parents in a child's life regardless of whether those parents can stay together. Fatherlessness is not something children should or need suffer, and Real Fathers For Justice demand action to restore fathers and the extended paternal family to the lives of many thousands of children. We demand justice and equality to ensure that parents and children get support, and respect with a fair and equitable outcome to what is becoming a more common family change.
Look out for dedicated fathers campaigning near you very shortly.
The trial concludes at Minsull Street Court, Manchester Tuesday 2nd October 2007.
